In The Middle Of The Road
I Found Balance
“The middle of the road is boring,” some friends would say. Others say I have no passion or purpose being in the middle of the road. “Watch out, you will get hit walking in the middle.” I have heard it all.
How do I see the world?
I have been a union worker and a non-union worker.
I worked for the government and worked for private industries.
I have been an employee and a business owner.
I had a professional job as an accountant; I also worked in the pineapple fields in Hawaii, as a manual laborer.
I understand both sides. Neither side is easy, or perfect.
My parents/family/religion:
My dad was analytical and logical. My dad’s famous advice was, “Get an education, so you don’t have to work in the pineapple fields all your life.” I am glad I took his advice. My next-door neighbor worked in the pineapple fields since her kids were in grade school until she retired after 35 years. I admire her; it was the hardest physically demanding job I ever experienced.
My mom was the philosophical, spiritual parent. English was her second language; she focused on positive thoughts and inspiring English phrases. “Never give up!” was her favorite. When a Tsunami…
